Russell Bears News

WA Teddy Bear Show

For those of you in Perth, Western Australia there will be a brand new Teddy Bear Show at the Claremont Showgrounds, 1st 2nd & 3rd August, 2014.

I will be trading on all 3 days and working hard to create some brand new bears and critters to display as well as planning to have a couple of new patterns to debut at the show.

 Teaching????

In the past many of you have asked whether I would start teaching, I have thought long and hard about this and have decided to give it a try. All the details are not finalized as yet, but I thought I would ease into it by releasing my first publication, Russell Bears “Tips & Techniques” by Kim Russell.
“Tips & Techniques” Part 1, has 10  simple techniques that I prefer to use on all my creations, it includes instructions and diagrams and was produced as a handy reference to accompany any Russell Bears pattern or as a guide to incorporate into your own designs.
If you would like to pre-order your copy, please contact me with your postal address.
Part 1 will take a couple of weeks to be printed and posted out, and as a celebration of this new path I am following, I will be signing each copy of the first print run.
Part 2 is in the making and will cover another 10 simple techniques, including Needle Sculpting, Attaching Eyes and Waxing a Nose plus more. If you would like to see a particular technique included, please feel free to contact me.
“Tips & Techniques” Part 2 will be available at the WA Teddy Bear Show in 4 months time.

In regard to teaching, I was thinking of starting off with any bear or critter from my current pattern range, eventually if things go ok  I may design specific bears and critters for workshops, but that would be much later in the year when I get a bit more organised, and definitely after the WA Teddy Bear Show.

I have some great support from a couple of local shops here in Perth who are willing to run some workshops for me and I would also like to also offer the option of Home Workshops too. Get some fellow bear makers together, get all your supplies and I will come to you, at a time and day that suits everyone, anywhere in the Perth metropolitan area. If you have any feedback on this idea, I would love to hear it.

 The Teddy Bear Challenge 2014
